About Me
I graduated from Birmingham University with a Batchelor of Physiotherapy (Hons) in 1994. I am HCPC registered. I have gained a variety of experience from over 13 years in the NHS, followed by the BMI Hospital and local private clinics, plus a couple of years in China. I specialise in treating musculoskeletal conditions and pregnancy related conditions. I have helped set up chronic back pain programs and worked on Warwick University’s BEST back pain trial looking at the CBT approach to managing back pain.
I used Pilates when I was training in dance to help improve performance. A knee injury led me to discover the benefits of physiotherapy and a career in the profession. I came back to Pilates again when I suffered from pelvic girdle pain in pregnancy. It seemed a logical progression to add clinical Pilates to my skills when the APPI set up their training for physiotherapists.
I like to help people with pain or injury to gain an understanding of their bodies and to learn when to ease off and when to try a bit to do more. I love the way Pilates offers a way in for people who are not used to exercising, and the results they can achieve.
I am continually learning and have done many postgraduate training courses including manual therapy courses, fitness training courses, APPI matwork Pilates, ante and postnatal Pilates, Pilates for osteoporosis, menopause for physiotherapists, and Trigger Point Pilates. One of the better things to come out of COVID has been access to online conferences. This has enabled me to learn from some of the best Physiotherapists and Pilates instructors from around the world.
When I am not treating patients or running the classes my first love is dance and the theatre, and getting outside in the sunshine.
